Not too many out today but we did have Liz Denny and Alan Beaumont to boost the numbers. Later, we had an even bigger surprise when Colin Tyler, who left last week in an ambulance, visited us. We had all been worrying about Colin this week but I don't think anyone expected to be seeing him in the wood for a while yet - you just can't stop him! Alan set about removing Spanish bluebells and ended up with half a barrow full, several people took some for their gardens. A lovely plant for the garden but we really do not want it in the wood, we'll stick with the native bluebells and if we don't remove the Spanish ones they can crossbreed. Some of the new plants in the B&B area were watered as were the plants in the shrubbery. The shrubbery was also weeded. The fence around the wildwood was completed. Several people were chipping paths. The habitat that had been set on fire on Tuesday was tidied up - this has been reported to the Police, a habitat was set alight and an aerosol canister was put in it. Fortunately, the resulting explosion alerted people to the fire and the Fire Brigade were there within minutes to put it out. We started making a log pile in the B&B area using the pile of logs near the coffee table which we had collected from around the wood over the last few weeks.
With coffee today we had a lovely selection of homemade cakes to celebrate Linda's birthday a few weeks ago - delicious.
No David today so Janet and John did the "listen up", although there was not much to say, except to thank Linda for the cakes and to present Colin with a Get Well card from the group - we didn't think we would be handing it to him in person! What a lovely surprise that was. We look forward to seeing him back, on light duties, but not before he's completely well.
