We had some sad news today, one of our longest serving members, June Sedgley, passed away yesterday. Our thoughts are with her family.
A cold damp morning did not stop a good turnout of workers today. We had a few things going on, chipping paths, clearing the Church wood ditch, we planted a young donated oak tree at the bottom of Gainsborough Drive to replace a silver birch that Waveney Norse had planted there and vandals had snapped off, we also replaced a stake on another silver birch nearby because it was rubbing against the bark and John & Julie started cutting the hedge around the wildflower meadow. Colin T was stung last week because he disturbed a wasp nest near the top of the church ditch, Colin G almost had the same fate this week, while looking for the nest so he could avoid it, he suddenly found he was standing in it !!
With coffee today we had a lovely selection of cakes provided by Wally and some lovely rock cakes from Ollie, and all because nobody else would. Makes me think of the famous reply that someone uttered when told the peasants had no cake - "Let them eat bread" :-)
David announced that the number of man hours worked in Gunton Wood by GWCP members now totalled over 40,000 hours !!
