Despite the weather forecast we had a good turnout again today and we were lucky that the rain held off until coffee time. Plenty to do today and the main thing was a large willow tree in the wildflower meadow that had suffered damage in Sunday night's storm, the decision was made to take the whole tree out to be on the safe side, this will provide us with path edging, fencing material and stakes for pegging down path edging. Also, we had a dead elm covered in ivy that had fallen Sunday night onto a seat near the Burial Park, this was shifted away from the seat and left to rot, hopefully the ivy will survive. We were chipping paths, Barry was trying to get leaf fall out of the pond, more work was done on the pond dipping platform, some of the hazel that had been coppiced last week was planted around the pond to hopefully form a living fence. Large logs from Saturday's workparty and from the tree taken down today were moved into place as path edging and will be staked down next week.
With coffee today we had RAIN!! We also had a lovely selection of cakes made by Rosemary and paid for by the "cake fund", this took the pain out of the rain!
David kept his announcements short today because of the rain but he did remind us all of the Litter Pick on Saturday morning (weather permitting), meet 8.45am for a 9am start at the end of Gainsborough Drive.
