Another lovely spring-like morning and another good turnout for work. We had a new member join us today, another David! Our solar shed light had had the solar panel knocked off it's fittings this week and the fittings were broken. Fortunately, it was all still working, so Colin moved the solar panel from the school side of the shed to the middle of the roof. Hopefully, it cannot be reached there. We had a delivery of chippings during the week and lots of workers were very keen to get them spread out on the muddy paths. To help with this, we had the tractor and trailer out, Ivor volunteered to drive it and was then nicknamed "Ivor the Engine" for the rest of the morning! Moore's lane was the muddiest of the paths so we started at the bottom by Vinnie's bridge and gradually worked our way back up. The logs from storm "Doris" that were stacked neatly in a pile last week were shifted into place as path edging. We also removed a lot of edging stakes that were no longer needed, where logs had settled in and would not easily move. A team went round the wood checking bird boxes for damage and repairing or replacing where necessary. Logs that had been thrown into the pond a few weeks ago were removed by Tony. The bird table near the pond was looked at, it is very rotten and the storm had wrecked the top of it. We removed all the damaged material and will fit a new table and roof in the future. Rosemary was out doing a litter pick around the wood and last but not least, the tree we felled last week in Moore's lane was cut up and tidied up and the path repaired where the stump had been. Quite a lot for one morning!
With coffee today we had a lovely selection of cakes from Ollie to celebrate his birthday. Happy birthday young man (the youngest out today by far).
We had David back today and he mentioned about the Snape trip for Dec 2017, the litter pick that the Resident's Association would like to hold on April 22nd. He also told us that Waveney Norse will soon (April 6th) be starting the tree work for Gunton and Foxburrow woods, this is the work picked up in the 2016 tree inspection. Finally, he reminded us all that we will be working in Foxburrow next week, meeting at Crome Walk or Monet Square at 9am.
