Another fine and sunny morning and it was hot and humid. Not such a large workparty today, it is half term so members are on holiday.
Some vandalism in the wood on Tuesday evening. Some young children were in the wood around 8.45pm when a dog walker heard some noise at the pond, she went over to find a group of four doing damage. They were kicking the gate area to the dipping platform. She told them to leave the wood. There was damage to the gate and the bird table near the dog bin and the fence outside Mo and John’s and trees near the shed. It has been reported to the Police.
So the work today was repairing the damage. The pond area, the bird table and the trees. Litter picking in the pit after the campers. Pulling the reported Himalayan Balsam near Vinnie’s bridge, digging out the roots of the tree in Moore’s Lane. Clearing the felled tree near wood henge. Transplanting Blue bells to the B&B area. Clearing around the trees and path edges.
David in his “listen up” Thanked Andrea and Paul for the homemade cakes.
He updated us on the successful trip to the Cotswolds and mentioned that next year it would be the Lake Distrct. He also mentioned the Big Red Bus trip and said there was a list of names and then mentioned the Fish and Chip bingo and The Snape Christmas Show.
A First Aid talk is to be arranged for Thursday 14th September at the Church Annex from 9.30 – 10.30am with coffee after, so no workparty in the wood that day. He said that the volunteers for the First Aid Certificated course would be informed of the date and venue.
Next week he asked for 2 teams to go to Foxburrow wood to pull Himalayan Balsam at Crome Walk, then come back to the Gunton Wood for coffee at 10.30am.
