Today our work really summed up the maintenance we do in the wood, not all what we do but a varied cross section of our work. Fence fixing at the bottom of Moore's lane - we were lucky enough to once again have Oscar helping us with this as the schools are on holiday. Clearing the main path where it is getting overgrown and narrow between the pit and PwH. Cutting ivy from trees at head height (we leave the ivy on the tree, unless we judge that its bulk produces a wind-sail effect that might cause a tree with poor roots to topple over in a dangerous location. Only in these cases do we attempt to kill it by cutting its stems). Clearing the pond of duck weed. Clearing the ditch at the PwH end as it had silted up with sand near the bridge. Weeding around young trees to help them get established.
Cakes today were provided by Janet to celebrate her birthday last month.
David in his “listen up” thanked Janet for the cakes. He then reminded us of the forthcoming events - the Big Red Bus trip on Saturday, the bus will leave from outside the Vicarage on Gunton Church Lane at 10.30am and will leave Southwold around 3-3.30pm for the return journey, Bingo Fish & Chips evening will be on Thurs Sept 7th and tickets are now available, the Christmas show at Snape will be on Saturday Dec 9th and next years trip in May will be to the Lake District.
