A bright chilly start turned into a warm sunny day. With the schools on the Easter break we lose some workers and gain others, and so we had young Will with us again. It was pretty much all hands to the pump today, Waveney Norse had arrived before 9am and brought a large industrial size chipper with them. They started chipping wood that we had collected over the last few weeks while we all set about getting old path edging and branches that were laying around the wood. Also, we took the opportunity to reduce the size and tidy up many of the habitats around the wood. We enjoyed it so much several of us stayed on after coffee to continue till about 12.30. It would be good if we could get the chipper back again sometime later in the year as we ran out of time today, there is still lots left to chip. The chipper couldn't chip rotten wood but we think we may make a wood pile with it all somewhere out of sight. About the only other thing done was a litter pick. The wood is looking a lot tidier after today's work.
With coffee today we had homemade sausage rolls and cakes from Terry, just because it's Thursday!
At “listen up” David thanked Terry for the cakes and for once he didn't need to go through the work we had done today. Although, he did mention that he would be continuing after coffee and asked if anyone else would like to stay and help. He talked abut the Gardener's Evening last Friday, which was quite a success, raising £308 for the church's "Fabric Fund". He did mention that there probably would be a workparty on May 3rd even though several workers will be away on the GWCP annual trip, there would be 25 workers not on the trip so Carol will be organizing tea/coffee and cakes for that day.
