Good weather for working in the wood brought plenty of us out to help. Some of the men went to finish off putting wire-netting on the bridge from the main path into the PwH field. Cleaning and recording the bird boxes continued and will continue for the next few weeks, even though this continues for about another hour after our coffee break each week! We swept the main path clear of leaves from the main gate to the top of Moore's Lane, using the leaf blower, rakes and brooms. We also tried removing the mud and grass from the path at the main gate. The sand bags we got last week were emptied, mixed with cement, resealed and used to build a wall on the side of the ditch to protect an oak tree. 19 bags were used along with some small paving slabs. Foxgloves were planted in the B&B area, the grass was removed from around them and guards put over to protect them from being nibbled. More overhanging branches were trimmed back.
With coffee today we had cheesy rolls and cakes from the oldest, most useful and most generous couple in the wood - Odds and Ends!
David did the listen-up today and started by announcing that the cakes were provided by Rosemary and purchased with left over money from previous weeks. After he had listed the work we had done today, he then talked about the 2019 calendar - there are about 50 left to sell. He mentioned about the main path being resurfaced and that because the contractor had been ill, the start date had been postponed to Mon Oct 29th.
