Despite the threat of rain this morning we had a good turnout and of course the rain did arrive so we called for coffee early. Maybe, people just wanted to come and see our lovely newly resurfaced main path! However, we did manage to get several things done before coffee. There was more planting going on in the B&B area. Mark worked on after coffee to make sure he finished cleaning and marking the bird boxes, an excellent job - repairs next! We had several guys at the pond clearing the duck weed off and they seem to have made a good job of it. There was a bit of fence repairing at the B&B area, filling in gaps. We shifted some left over chippings from the resurfacing work and stored them in case we need them later to fill any dips we may find. David and Andrew met with Adam from Pleasurewood Hills to discus the possibility of us planting a new hedge in the field, the gap between the new hedge and the existing hedge along the top of Moore's Lane would then be left to grow wild. I'm pleased to say Adam was agreeable with our plan.
With coffee today we had hot mini sausage rolls, mini pasties and a lovely selection of cakes provided by Peter & Marion.
David thanked Peter & Marion for the cakes and then listed the work we had achieved today. He talked about the work Anglian Water were doing at the bottom of the main path and he hoped the bridge into the field would be replaced when AW finished. He also talked about the resurfacing work which finished yesterday and how well the work had gone although there was one patch that still looks a little wet and we may need to put some more stone chippings on it. He hoped that Rights of Way would resurface the path that runs alongside the PwH fence. He mentioned that he had organised a First Aid refresher course for the morning of Thurs Nov 15th. He went on to tell us about the Air Ambulance landing on one of the glades in the Burial Park yesterday, he had spotted it while saying bye to the guys working on the path and he had managed to get some photos of it landing and taking off. He finished by telling us that the large trunk that had fallen into the field at the bottom of the main path had been cut up last Saturday and the logs are ready to be brought up for path edging. There will be Saturday working this weekend, meet at 9am at the sheds as usual, we will be cutting down a large elm tree.
