A great turnout today and great weather as well which meant we could get lots done and we did. One of our important jobs was to shift the two heaps of old chippings ready for some fresh chippings to arrive for the paths. We kept the old chippings as they are good for putting around our young trees and plants, in fact some of it was taken straight down to our B&B area to spread around some of the new plants. We had a team working on the new plan for Moore's Lane. Julie was removing wild garlic from Moore's Lane. David had the tractor & trailer out to shift logs from the bottom of the main path to the top for path edging. Another team had the trolley dolly out and shifted logs from the bottom of Moore's Lane and then shifted logs from the back of 53 Stubbs Wood, all to the coffee area to be used for path edging. Mark was working on the bird & bat boxes again, repairing bird boxes and installing 3 new bat boxes, work which continued after coffee to complete. A team went to the wildflower meadow to continue cutting the hedge, they took the newly serviced hedge-trimmer but had difficulty starting it and then it would only run for about 10mins before cutting out! In-between work continued with loppers. Some of the small trees identified in the tree inspection were cut down. Trimming back of greenery overhanging the paths continued.
With coffee today we had hot mini pasties, sausage rolls & pies plus cakes provided by John W.
David thanked John for the cakes and then listed the work we had done today. While talking about the logs he had moved today he explained that Anglian Water had been good enough to use their digger to shift the logs from the field onto the main path to make it easier for us to collect them. He also mentioned there would be a workparty this Saturday usual time of 9am at the sheds, continuing the tree inspection work in Gunton Wood. He went on to talk about next Thursday, the first-aiders will be doing a refresher course in the church annex from 9.30-11.30 and will have coffee in there. There will still be a normal workparty, weather permitting, and David hopes to be at the sheds at the usual time before he goes to the first aid course. A group have asked if they could come to the wood and help us chip paths next week. Then he briefly reminded us of the details for the Bury trip and the Snape trip before finishing by announcing that there were about 30 calendars left to sell.
