Another grey day but that did not dampen our spirits, we were all keen to get stuck in, probably in the hope of removing some of the festive excess. We concentrated our efforts on just a few jobs, most were chipping paths. We finished off the path from the coffee area to woodhenge and almost completed the path from the main gate to the pond. We probably would have completed this but we ran into the path edging gang working in that area so kept well clear so as not to slow them down. The path edging gang continued removing old rotten path edging and replacing it with new large logs, it is proving slow going but we will get there eventually. The Saturday work gang were out last week, cutting down very large leylandii for Pleasurewood Hills. This created lots of logs for path edging so a team, using tractor and flatbed trailer, went down to PwH and brought the logs up to the area near our sheds. There will be more logs to come over the next few weeks and the wood needs as much as we can get at the moment but it may take some time before we get round to using these. Finally, we had a team out clearing leaves off the main path, with leafblower and rakes. Sadly, the recent rain has made the leaves harder to shift than when they are dry but the team started at the main gate and got a good way down towards PwH. A job to be continued.
With coffee today we had various hot mini pasties and a selection of cakes provided by Geoff.
David, thanked Geoff for the cakes and then listed the work we had done today. He reminded us that next weeks workparty would be in Foxburrow Wood, meeting at the usual time at either Crome Walk or Monet Square. Also, there will be a workparty this Saturday, continuing last Saturday's work as there are many more leylandii to take down. David, along with our vice chairman Andrew and possibly our secretary Peter, will be meeting the new manager of PwH next Wednesday to introduce the group to him. He briefly mentioned the Worker's Christmas meal at the Victoria on Jan 24th at 7pm and finished with the news that GWCP has now received the final payment from Tesco for the main path resurfacing work.
