A chilly feel to the weather today but at least it was dry and sunny. Much of the work today happened in the Moore's Lane area where on one side a hazel & hawthorn hedge was being planted around the new extension to the wild-wood and on the other side the long established hedge was being cut. As cutting the hedge had proved difficult and hard work in the past we had come up with a novel way to make it easier - David stood in the back of the trailer to give him extra height to cut the hedge while Ivor drove it forward slowly! We also had the strimmer and mower out to finish cutting the meadow. Also, there was some clearing up of an area opposite the B&B area. Once again the main path was cleared of leaves as work should start on resurfacing it on either Monday or Tuesday. Also, we were trimming back branches overhanging the paths, Rosemary did a litter pick around the wood, path edging was checked and tidied ready for new edging and the sump in the ditch was checked and it looks like the cement may have cracked.
With coffee today we had a large selection of cakes from Paul & Andrea to celebrate the fact that nobody was providing cakes!
At listen-up David thanked Paul & Andrea for the cakes and then talked about the resurfacing work on the main path, this should start on Mon or Tues next week. Linked to this, he talked about the work Anglian Water are doing at the bottom of the field near Pleasurewood Hills. They may have damaged the bridge into the field but it is hoped they will replace this with a new stronger bridge. David notified us that there will be another litter pick organised by the Residents Association on Saturday, meeting in Links Rd car park at 9.30am. He mentioned that as the snowdrops may soon be coming through and the shoots hidden by leaves we need to let Suffolk Rocks know that people should keep to the paths in these areas - notices will be put up in these areas. David is organising a workparty on Saturday which may either try to fix the cracked cement in the sump or may start cutting up the large tree that has fallen into the field near Pleasurewood Hills, depending on who and how many workers turn up.
