Despite the weather, we had a very good turn out today. Many were chipping the paths, a group were coppicing hazels which may well come in useful for fence repairs, a new gate to the pond was fitted and some did a litter pick at the "pit" in the field. The litter pick came up with the usual odd items, clothing, shoes, 2 spades and a fork, an old wheel and several bin liners of general rubbish.
With coffee today we had hot sausage rolls, teddi oggies and hot vegetarian cheesy rolls all from money donated into our cake fund by Wally, our excellent photographer, who was not out today (no photos this week!) so missed out on this treat.
We had two people from Essex & Suffolk Water join us for coffee today, after coffee David took them to the ditch to explain what we hope to do to fix the water feed to the pond. We hope they may be able to help us find a suitable sump.
David told us that in two weeks, Oct 27th, we hope to take down the large dead elm in the "secret garden", hopefully without causing too much damage. We will need many helpers for this operation. David also mentioned the Autumn Litter Pick which will be on Sat Nov 12th 9am start at the bottom of Gainsborough Drive, after the school half-term and after bonfire night, so there should be plenty to clear up! The annual Christmas meal will be on Thurs Jan 26th at the college.
