A lovely sunny warm morning but not too many of us out today (about 17) as most of the group were on holiday in the Lake District. After the storms between Sunday and Tuesday we had some tidying up to do, Moore's Lane seemed to be worst affected with more willows down on the wildflower meadow and some smaller trees leaning badly either across the path or across entrances to the field. Colin cut up the willows with the chainsaw, with the help of Paul and John. We shifted some of the logs off the meadow but there are more to clear next week. Another group tackled the smaller stuff and between the two groups we managed to sort out all the damage. Fencing around the pond continued and also cleaning the boards at the pond was done, these had become very slippery. However, it was noticed that some of the boards are failing and will need to be replaced. Andrea continued painting the notice boards with the help of Mo this week, these are now all done except the bits they left for Geoff to finish off! We had Alan with us today and he started digging up and removing any Spanish bluebells (or hybrids) that he found in the wood. Apparently there are an awful lot of them so this work will continue.
With coffee today we had a lovely selection of HOT sausage rolls and HOT cheese & onion bites for the veggies. These came from the cake fund (you know you're a well organised group if you have a cake fund!) for no special reason.
Peter (new secretary) did the “listen up” today. He thanked Carol for organising the sausage rolls & cheesey bites and then went on to list what work we had been doing today. Finally, he finished off by reminding us all of the SGM next Thurs at coffee break, when we will vote on amendments to the constitution which will allow GWCP to have an Honorary President. John quickly mentioned that the Tesco Bags of Help scheme had now started and GWCP were in 3 local Tesco stores until the end of June.
